What are the benefits of Omega-3 oils?

In a recent study in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings, two of the omega-3 fatty acids (eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid) were investigated. As a result of the study, consumption of omega-3 fatty acids in food or nutrient supplements reduced the risk of developing heart disease by 16% in patients with high triglyceride or fat levels and by 14% in those with high LDL cholesterol. Given the studies of omega-3 fatty acids, consumption of at least two or three meals a week has been shown to be of considerable benefit in protecting against heart disease. For this reason, it is recommended that fish such as salmon or sardines, which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, are consumed.
